Why we exist

Some conversations are hard to start. Not because parents don't care, but because nobody ever taught us what to say.

The Koji Collective makes those conversations easier. We create conversation cards designed using trauma-informed principles to help children talk about the things that matter most, online safety, feelings, friendships, and the moments that are hard to bring up out of nowhere.

Because if we don't have the conversations, that's the scarier option.

Our story

I'm Sharni, a social worker with 15 years of experience working with children and families, and mum of three. I've spent my career sitting across from families in some of the hardest moments of their lives, and I built The Koji Collective because of everything those conversations taught me.

Every card is grounded in real experience, not theory. What actually helps a child open up. What actually stops a hard topic feeling too big to raise. What a parent needs in their hand at 7pm on a Tuesday, not a manual, just a place to start.

The Koji Collective was built from a regional Victorian kitchen table, tested with real families, schools and practitioners in Bendigo before it ever reached a wider audience. It's grown one honest conversation at a time.

Meet Koji and Luma

Koji is a curious child, still figuring things out, and getting it wrong sometimes. Luma is a wise old owl who never gives answers, only asks the questions that help Koji find his own way.

Together, they represent what we believe about kids: they don't need to be told what to think. They need someone patient enough to ask, and to listen.

Our model: Pause, Reflect, Act

Every card is built around a simple model. Pause before reacting. Reflect on what's really going on. Act with the support of someone who's listening.

It's not a script. It's a way of slowing down long enough for the real conversation to happen.

What we believe

The conversation is the point. There are no right or wrong answers on our cards. What matters is that the conversation happens at all.

Hard conversations should be easier, not scarier. We don't believe in frightening parents or lecturing kids. We believe in giving families a genuine, gentle way in.

Every child deserves to be heard, not managed. Our cards are built to open a door, not deliver a lesson.

Expertise should be accessible. Fifteen years of professional experience shouldn't stay behind a closed office door. It belongs in family homes, classrooms, and the hands of the people raising and supporting kids every day.
